Two Means Trouble
|
You have two kids who are 14 months apart. How cute, they look alot alike...are they twins? One is taller and more mature than the other, so that can't be.
Two can be a blessing, yet can also be trouble at times. I will be writing a series of "sibling" articles in the future about raising my 9 1/2 year old girl and almost 11 year old boy. I will be sharing with you the joys and the whoas, and hope that I can help others understand their kids more and why they do and say the things that they do.
Meet Cassandra....she is 9 1/2 going on 11. She is tallest in her class, more mature and very bright. She always makes straight A's and finishes her homework in record time. She loves to read, write stories (where did she get that from?), ride her bike, rollerblade and play video games.
Meet Arthur....he will be 11 soon, yet is ADHD and has some dyslexia, he acts and looks around 9 1/2. He tries very hard in school and has to have special resource classes to get by for his 2nd grade reading level and 1st grade writing level. He loves to draw comic book characters that he creates, collect and study astronomy and space, dual Yu-Gi-Oh cards with friends, ride his bike and play video games.
You will be reading in the coming months their adventures and how they make it being with one another 24/7, even though they have separate rooms to retreat in.
Stay tuned...you just might learn something or something might touch you, and you might even chuckle. Kids can do and say the darnest things.

Stop Parental Alienation Syndrome Before It Gets A Chance To Start
Parental Alienation Syndrome was probably first identified and codified by Dr. Richard Gardner in his book of the same name. He first laid out his thesis in 1985 in an article, "Recent Trends in Divorce and Custody Litigation." He expanded this into the book "Parental Alienation Syndrome," and since then, PAS has been written about, studdied, debated, denied, and - of course - has had dozens of websites and forums dedicated to it.A brief overview of PAS will be helpful and will explain more about this condition than quoting from the hundreds of articles written about it. PAS has 4 components, and all 4 must be present (otherwise the situation is called "Parental Alienation"):(1) --parent acting as gatekeeper to the children(2)...(related: Parenting)

Fraternal Twin Parenting Concerns
Identity and Your Fraternal TwinFor the most part, throughout this article I refer to a fraternal twin in the singular rather than the plural "twins." This is to emphasize the individuality of each twin. Too often twins are defined only by their being a part of a whole, rather than by their own individual identity. This can be very damaging e...(related: Parenting)

Violence In Media
In the news, we hear and see an increasing number of reports about violence among children. This goes from rude fights on the playground to armed incidents in schools that result in injuries or even casualties. Now asking ourselves where this behaviour is originated, we quickly come to media as a scapegoat: TV violence, computer games and the Internet. Often we lack overview of what our children experience while dealing with these influences. And there lies the root problem. Various scientist groups have tried to prove the influence of visual violence on children's behaviour. There has been proof and counter-proof - so what we can conclude from this is that the connection betw...(related: Parenting)
