Nanny 911 And Disciplining Your Child

Nanny 911 Interview with Montel Williams
I saw an interview with Nanny 911 with Montel Williams and I have to say I was really impressed.
One of the clips that was shown was Nanny 911 going into a home with 3 or 4 boys. The mother, father and boys were out of control. The boys ranged in age, I think the one that was the most trouble was about 9 or 10 years old.
There was a lot of cursing and yelling between the whole family, especially the mother. The father had a home that was electrically dangerous. The father was sleeping on the couch and the boys were sleeping in the room with their mother because the other rooms were a mess and not finished. I guess the father was buying homes, fixing them up and then selling them. They had probably moved 6 or 7 x during the last 10 years.
The boy with the most trouble almost suffocated his younger brother. There was major problems in the home. The boys ran wild, didn't do even the most simplest request by the mother. It was a mess.
When the Nanny came in, she set the ground rules. She had a board of what the boys were to do. When they did them, they got a ticket worth .25 each. Now all the boys, except for one was money motivated and did what they were supposed to do. One thing that be done was hands are not made for hitting.
Now the one boy was so resistant, he put signs all over the house, saying Nanny go home. One time, he had a sign picketing in the home "Nanny Go Home" and the Nanny was right there and saying Whoa Whoa everytime the boy said Nanny Go Home. It was funny because the Nanny was not breaking down. The Nanny knew that this boy needed to communicate what he was feeling.
Nanny 911 did sit down with the boy and he expressed that he moved so often, he didn't have a chance to be in 1 home and everytime they moved he had to get used to the new school and make new friends. The other boys expressed the same thing.
Nanny 911 brought it to the attention and the mother and father. What really made me shocked was the father stated "they don't mind moving" and actually denied that moving was a problem and arrogant about what he believed.
After the denial, the mother and father decided they would stay in this home. The kids and the father fixed the house and the kids got their own room.
When you saw the mother and father afterwards, nothing is perfect but even the Nanny stated that each of us have our personalities and we are not here to change each child's personality but work basically on the structure and ground rules.
I wish I had known about these techniques to help my child develop a more positive attitude. Don't get me wrong, I have a great son but I could have done a better job.
Consistency, Consistency, Consistency is the key. Set up a board with what you want your child to do, of course, not being unrealistic. Give a reward when they do it and you can't take that reward away once it has been given. They earned it. So just watch what reward you are giving them. It takes more effort initially to set up a board and reward system, but kids and parents need structure. That doesn't mean this is a corporal situation where your demands are unrealistic.
Start out with simple chores for your child to do. If they do it, give them a reward. If they don't, you stick with your decision and they do not get their reward regardless of the whining or pleading.
Now came out not too long ago written by Nanny 911 called "Nanny 911: Expert Advice for All Your Parenting Emergencies".
I think this book will be worth every penny. You want to raise positive children without going nuts.

Influencing Adolescents - Guided Democracy
You need to smart to be able influence adolescents. You need to be able to stand back a little, hold your tongue and wait your turn to speak.Recently, Sam my seventeen year old son, said "No way" to our requests to wear some decent clothes to an upcoming on-stage event. Sam was chosen to read a piece of his written work on stage in front of 200 people in a plush venue ...(related: Parenting)
What About Adhd Teens And Driving?
This is one of the most common questions asked of me by parents of teenagers who have ADHD.
"Should I let my teen drive when he turns 16? He seems so immature. But it would mean so very much to him."
Wait. Where did our wisdom as parents go? Should we let an immature 16 year old...(related: Parenting)
Parents - Create An Emotionally Healthy Connection With Your Child
"I could have helped you if I would have known, I'm your mother. I protect you against everybody in this world. I never thought to protect you from yourself." This was a headline in a local newspaper. Her daughter had committed suicide the night before. The mother involved must be going crazy with grief as she thought she knew her child so well. But sometimes we don't and sometimes we get caught off guard by believing that we do.Creating a loving emotional connectio...(related: Parenting)
Film Industry And Our Youth
In the first premise, some films and video tapes which are released into the world market are doing more harm to the society than good. These films are full of various modes and systems of corruptions. Imagine a film in which a small boy abused and insulted the age mate of his parents for almost one and half hours and was punished in the film for only five minutes, much emphasis is laid on the insult and abuse than the punishment inherent in the social malady. When other children watch such a movie, they think withing them that it is no harm to do such a thing to ones parent or other elders, then they imitate such act and started to abuse their elders in the public. These children do not know that real life situations a...(related: Parenting)
Sibling Rivalry: The Magic Trick That Stops It Instantly
It's a familiar scene: Kids screaming at each other, complaining that, "He got a bigger piece of pie," or "Shegot to stay up an hour later last night."When sibling rivalry rears its ugly head, what do you do?Try to reason with the kids? Scream, threaten or punishthem? Ignore it and run for cover?None of these methods is very effective for very long. But I've discovered a tactic that works every time. Itreally is guaranteed to end sibling battles, almostinstantaneously. The only downside is it requires a bit ofpatience on your part. The trick is understanding that it doesn't matter what thekids are arguing about, the real battle is for yourattention.Really. They could be screaming at the top of their lungsover who gets to play with a certain toy. They could bered-faced an...(related: Parenting)
Some Thoughts On Counseling Goals For Adhd
What should the goals for counseling be when the patient has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?
Every therapist will have their own opinions, but I'll give you some of my thoughts.
First, it is important to teach the child or teen with ADHD how to recognize problems and how to solve problems. There are many good problem solving techniques that young people can quickly learn, and these are great tools to teach them.
Second, it is important to teach the child or teen how to think before they act, how to be less impulsive, how to have greater self-control. Without good internal cont...(related: Parenting)
Parents Of Toddlers And Pre-schoolers: 7 Universal Laws
1. The Law of the BeastAs parents we need to keep in mind that we are raising our teenager while we raise our toddler. They are essentially the same beast.2. The Law of CPRHaving little to do with cardiopulminaryresuscitation, the law of CPR states that we need to be Consistent, Resistant and Persistent with our kids.3. The Law of WordsOur little ones need to be taught to "use their words, not their hands" when dealing with conflicts.4. The Law of MineIn the world of a young child everything is mine. If I am playing with it, it's mine. If you are playing with it, it's mine. If I played with it yesterday and...(related: Parenting)
How To Deal With Your Child?s Inappropriate Behaviour
Children bombard parents with many challenging behaviours. We are delighted if their behaviour is mostly positive. But what if your child constantly demonstrates negative behaviour? How are you going to deal with it?It can get very frustrating for a mother who is yelled at every time she says 'no' to a child. In my clinic, I've seen parents who feel desperate when their son or daughter who used to behave like a "saint" is now rebellious, oppositional, and involved in drugs. As a parent, what are your options?Establish a Hierarchy of Consequences ...(related: Parenting)
Educational Jigsaw Puzzles, How Educational Are They?
Many companies advertise their products as being educational. How much of this terminology is sales promotion and jargon, and how much is fact?As an educator for many years, I can say with authority, that there is educational value in all types of jigsaw puzzles. The skills acquired and practiced in completing jigsaw puzzles are a foundational part of successful learning. Doing jigsaw puzzles develops several functions of the brain simultaneously as a child has fun and also learns. Most notably developed in this learning process are the abilities to ...(related: Parenting)
