"The best blush to use is laughter: It put roses in your cheeks and in your soul."
Linda Knight
We all know the old adage that "Laugher is the best medicine" - but what does that mean, actually?
Well, research has shown that laughing can help in:
* Lowering blood pressure
* Reducing stress hormones
* Increasing muscle flexibility
* Boosting immune function
* Triggering the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers
* Producing a general sense of well-being.
The most famous case of laughing away illness is that of Norman Cousins who took that quote literally and set out to heal himself of a serious chronic disease by laughing at favourite comedy shows. He stated that ten minutes of laughing gave him two hours of drug-free pain relief.
In fact the positive effects of laughter have been recognized to the point that now there are certified laughter coaches (my favourite laughter coach website is: www.laughtercoach.com Just going there will make you smile!)
Cheryl Oberg of the Canadian Association for Therapeutic Humour states that children naturally laugh over 300 times a day, but as adults we only laugh about eight times a day. We need to raise the bar a little here!
So, what's a good way to start laughing? Watch small children and listen to their conversations; watch a funny movie with friends (go for some good old fashioned Charlie Chaplin, "I Love Lucy" or Laurel and Hardy); simply keep your eyes and ears tuned for funny events.
If you need more serious help, you can even take a course on laughter at: www.higher-self-studies.com.
I haven't taken that course but if you do, let me know how if it was good!

Moral Armors Irrational Parenting, Part Iii
Not Letting Them Think.We all implicitly know that anything questioning the process of cognition itself will be met with massive irritation, making us want to respond with "Don't question my capacity to think." Their moronic reasoning to show how logic is derived, provokes the thought, "Don't try to tell me how to think." Forcing their opinions down your throat earns the response, "Don't tell me what to think." Some parents show no respect for personal boundaries long after childhood, straightening your clothes, your hair, invading your privacy-incessantly buzzing around you like a mosquito. This belittlement implies incompetent dependency-a fundamental insult to Man or animal-any way you slice it. These actions tick every...(related: Parenting)
The Seven Keys Of Being A Father
Is there a fathering instinct?Celebrated child development expert Erik Erikson maintains that adults have a fierce desire to protect and nurture the next generation. This is the generative nature of parenting? to nurture and protect the next generationWe recognise this desire in women as the maternal instinct. Some Thoughts On Counseling Goals For Adhd
What should the goals for counseling be when the patient has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?
Every therapist will have their own opinions, but I'll give you some of my thoughts.
First, it is important to teach the child or teen with ADHD how to recognize problems and how to solve problems. There are many good problem solving techniques that young people can quickly learn, and these are great tools to teach them.
Second, it is important to teach the child or teen how to think before they act, how to be less impulsive, how to have greater self-control. Without good internal cont...(related: Parenting)
Planning The Ultimate Kid Birthday Party
Child Party Planning Guideline #1)Pick the ThemeYour child is going to look forward to their birthday months before it arrives. Let them know how important their birthday is and make sure they are apart of the planning process. Start by choosing their birthday theme with them.Every child is different, including siblings. You'll want to choose a theme that is unique to what your child is currently involved ...(related: Parenting)
Playground Pettiness
Recently I took my two children to a popular new park in the area. It's abeautiful new playground, all wood, divided into different areas of play fordifferent age groups. It's wonderful for me as well, as my children can playat age appropriate areas and I can see/interact with both of them at thesame time. This is what makes it our entire family's favorite playground, aswell that for many other families in the area.When we arrived at the park this part...(related: Parenting)
