Being A Mum - It?s About Them And Not About You!

Parenting

So you want to be a mum? Every time you see a little baby in a mother's arms you desire it even more. I am going to ask some hard questions here for those who want to be mums: Why do you want to be a mum? Is it because it will be fun? Is it because you can show your motherhood to others? Is it because you want to keep your partner?

Is it because of your loneliness? Is it because you are curious? Is it because you can get so many benefits in this country? Is it because you want to leave your surname going after you die? If you had to go on an interview in order to be authorised to be a mother, do you think you'd pass?

Motherhood is a full-time job with long hours and overtime. It is not a task for just anyone, and I could even go on to say that it is one of the most important jobs there is in the whole world. You are bringing another human being to life - can you feel the weight? And if that's not heavy enough, consider that you'll be making yourself responsible for him for the rest of your life.

Whoever he becomes, he'll still be your son. Whatever she does, she'll still be your daughter, and that is a very heavy weight to carry! You will be directly responsible for teaching your child everything that he needs to know in order to succeed. If you haven't learned all that yourself yet, teaching your child is going to be extremely tricky!

You may think that since there are so many mums, it must be self-explanatory. But think again: how many mums actually succeed in raising their children the right way? How many succeed in bringing their children up to be the best they can be? If all mums thoughtfully considered their responsibilities, our society would definitely not be the way it is today. Instead, we have children killing other children, kids taking illegal drugs, teenagers getting pregnant, and the list goes on.

Some adults have a hard time finding their place in the world just because of the way they were brought up themselves. Now this should mean something!

Many women want to be mums, but can they really be good ones? You don't have to go to college to qualify for the motherhood task. But somehow you must come to understand what you're getting yourself into. You cannot bear your children and just let them be raised by TV, Internet, school, their friends, etc. Once you bring them into this world, it is up to you to take care of them.

If the reasons you're having children are among those listed at the beginning of this article, then you're having them for the wrong reasons and you (and most certainly your children!) will be greatly disappointed. You see, if you could not fulfil those needs on your own, how do you think a little child can fulfil them for you?

Isn't it unfair to expect that your little baby will keep your partner at home? Or, that your baby will take your loneliness away or, make your life more fun? How can he possibly do that? If there's one thing you should learn before becoming a mother, it is this: motherhood is about the children - not about you!

Get Down (on The Floor!) And Play With Your Children
When was the last time you and your kids rolled around on the floor together laughing yourselves silly? If you're like me, it may have been a while! Sometimes I get caught up in household chores, give errands a priority or answer the phone when I know I should let it ring, instead of making time for my two daughters. It's not that I don't play with them; just the opposite is true. It simply seems as if I'm trying to fit them into my daily schedule when in fact I should be scheduling my day around them. I used to be a planner. I would try to organize activities that I thoug...(related: Parenting)

How To Teach Anger Management To Your Child
Most of us recognize the continuing escalation of violence around us, due to intolerance, and many of us blame it on somebody else. Parents teach their children, all the time, and when one of us displays "road rage," while our child is in the car, we teach a brand new skill set.Although, road rage is inappropriate behavior, at any time, and can get you killed, most children who are exposed to it, will duplicate the actions of their parents, when they are old enough to drive. So the first step, is to set an example and, possibly, use some of these ideas, for yourself. Studies show that anger causes atherosclerosis, the build-up of plaques in the arteries, t...(related: Parenting)

My Children
I have been a single mom for almost 20 years. My kids were 3, 7, 12 and 14 when my ex left.As a single mom, it's often hard because you are the only one to deal with the children. There are times when you are and there are times when you aren't. Ove...(related: Parenting)

Eating Disorders In Children
If I had a dollar for every time I persuaded a girl of 8 or 9 that they were not, in fact, fat, I'd be considerably richer. When my older daughter was about that age, their mothers were putting a lot of her friends on diets. It drove me absolutely crazy to see these poor little girls, worrying about their "tummies" or "fat" that wasn't even evident, except to a mother who was hoping for a super model-skinny pre-pubescent child, which is ridiculous. When they were at my house, they ate well, I wouldn't allow them to drink or eat anything diet and I encouraged them to eat healthy food that would strengthen their bodies and bones. I also tried to assure them that they were not fat; that they would grow into their bodies and they were absolutely beautiful jus...(related: Parenting)

Back To School; Time To Recharge
The back-to-school shopping is done. Brand new pencils, colored markers, and notebooks fill my daughter's back pack. I've cleaned off the refrigerator in preparation for the new onslaught of pictures and class notices. School's started. She is excited to be back amongst her friends. I find myself in the everyday routine of waking up in the dark, fixing breakfast and packing lunches. Even though my daughter is old enough to drive herself to school this year, I still rush out the door behind her dressed in sweat pants and no makeup. After a quick work out and a shower, my work day finally begins. It's good to be back in the routine. But, back-to-school is also ...(related: Parenting)

Parenting: 6 Observations On Fatherhood
Just the other day my oldest son asked:"Daddy, am I old enough to call you Dad?"Won't be long now before he is asking for the car keys.......Here are a few things I'm learning as well as some important things I've discovered so far about this thing called fathering.1. You really have to give up the myth of quality time vs quantity time. By the time the average child is 7 years old, they have watched 20,000 commercials. Given that amount of influence, infrequent "quality time" just doesn't cut it. It has to be quantity time that's of high quality.2. As a dad you have been influenced and effected by the generatio...(related: Parenting)
